Meyer, Hendricks & Bivens employs both first- and second-year students from law schools across the nation. We use the summer associate program as our primary recruiting method and hire summer associates with the hope and expectation that the relationship will develop into permanent employment.

Over the course of a typical summer, summer associates work on projects with a number of different attorneys within the firm. These projects usually focus on research and writing, and sometimes are associated with observational opportunities. These projects provide the summer associate with an opportunity to improve his or her adversarial skills while allowing us to evaluate the summer associate's analytical and writing abilities. Each summer associate is assigned a "mentor" for the summer. That mentor's job is to ensure that the summer with the firm provides the summer associate with the appropriate number of projects, challenges, and observation opportunities. More importantly, that mentor works to make sure the summer is an enjoyable and personal/personable experience for each individual who joins us as a summer associate.

We also have our summer associates attend a number of events, including client meetings and interviews, depositions, court hearings, appellate arguments, trials and arbitrations as those opportunities present themselves. These events allow the summer associates to observe their work "in action" and to get a better feel for what it means to be an attorney at Meyer, Hendricks & Bivens. In order to get to know our summer associates better and to allow them to get to know us, we host a number of social events during the summer. These include lunches and dinners with the attorneys, attendance at cultural and sporting events and other activities that may be of particular interest to our summer associates.

Our typical summer associate stays with us from ten to twelve weeks. We permit our summer associates to split their summers with another law firm, but require that summer associates spend a minimum of six weeks with us.
We set salaries for our summer associates to be competitive with the other major litigation firms in Phoenix. For those summer associates coming to Phoenix from other cities and states, we can assist them in finding living arrangements.
